Governor Beshear announces $28.7 million in improvements for Interstate 65

Main Line Closures

Interstate lane closures will be necessary to perform the improvements. As this section of I-65 averages 186,000 vehicles per day, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet encourages motorists to find alternate routes. In the section where I-65 is five lanes wide in each direction, the roadway will be reduced to three lanes during construction. In the northern section of the project where I-65 is three lanes wide in each direction, the roadway will be reduced to two lanes during construction. To minimize the impact to traffic, the contractor must complete the pavement replacement work on the mainline of I-65 within 16 days from the start date of each direction. The contract will allow for some flexibility in that the construction can be performed on one side of the highway at a time or on both sides at the same time.
